HOUSE of HANDS Halloween Havanna – party setup

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

graypants collaborated with House of Hands on the human hive themed art party at havana on halloween night.  we enlisted Jaws (our laser cutter) for a week of shredding to help cut 1500 cardboard rings to clad the walls of the hive.  we also hung a cluster of our HIVE shaped scraplights at the center of the space.  the party was a huge success for House of Hands and will likely lead to another bash at the same location on new year’s eve.  we’ll keep you posted!  photos by marius nita.

a few months back, we were lucky enough to hang a handful of our scrap lights in the penthouse of the smith tower here in seattle (some of you may remember the nest event we participated in). we all know the smith tower. i’ve known of it for years – even before moving to seattle. we studied it in architecture school. it is an awesome building, and i wanted to post a couple recent photos i took of it to pay homage to its awesomeness. simple, as, that.

if you’re interested – i feel that this building’s observation deck offers the best view of our wonderful city… still.

graypants mural

mark vonrosenstiel has invaded our stairwell.  taking over with cast dog heads along the steps and painted canines and canaries on the walls, vonrosenstiel has pulled the vitality and color of our captitol hill neighborhood right from the street and into our studio. see more.

500 pine party

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

the fun patrol of seattle won 10k to throw a huge party all of which was documented by a film crew to be used in jansport’s ads and commercials. they won the cash for deciding to celebrate a creative street block that once housed some of seattle’s best bars. last year that block was demolished and replaced by a parking lot, the ceremonial burial ground of Capitol Hill nightlife. graypants donated some of their ideas, time, and scraplights for one special night on august 20th to celebrate that old block where we once roamed. the end result was a reconstructed street facade with beautiful colors, textures, and very familiar entrances.

smith tower’s blue lantern

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

we donated a scraplight to NEST and in turn got access to the little lantern on top of the smith tower. the three of us climbed the ladder and did the “reverse birth” to get into the blue womb. the tiny 5ft. diameter space offered some terrific views of the city and may just be the coolest space in seattle if you don’t mind your stomach sinking a bit when you look down the edge of the pyramid!
